Minor Changes, and Sharing My Influences


I have received a lot of player feedback and decided to release another public revision before the Steam early access version.

The most notable addition the in this version is the inclusion of two new original music tracks, you'll hear them in-game, and you can also take a listen below:

The most notable change I made, based on feedback I received from several players, was fixing the oversized blood sprites:

I wanted to go a little more in depth about some of my influences for this game.

As many of you may know, the gameplay is influenced predominantly by 80s beat 'em up and hack n' slash games such as Double Dragon:

And Ninja Gaiden:

The atheistic  is based a lot off of games like Chip's Challenge for Windows:

The live actor sprites are largely influenced by the "hyper-realistic" 90s look; games such as Mortal Kombat and Rise of the Triad. Level design is admittedly my biggest weakness and what I have the least experience in; I've made a couple of incomplete maps for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3, but this is really a learning experience for me, and as such most of the initial level design is very Wolfenstein 3D like., but I've started adding influences from early platformers like Super Mario 64 as well. There are obviously hints of other influences such as Fallout New Vegas, Borderlands, Dishonored, and others, but the primary focus was to bring the 80s beat 'em up and hack n' slash genres into the 90s first person style.
